Indian Hawthorn1.
Q: I have several Indian Hawthornes facing a full western exposure (5-7 hours of direct sun). They have been in the ground since late spring. The leaves on a few of have gone totally brown or have areas around the crease in the leaf that are brown. I have 1-2" of mulch around each one and they are on a drip irrigation system getting 30 minute soaking at least once a week.A: I think this is a function of stress being forced on a shrub which is not completely established. You are doing everything you can do with the mulch and drip irrigation. After the plants stablize after this first year they should do better. The dwarf or standard Yaupon or Burford Holly are better (tougher, longer-lasting but none-blooming) choices than Indian Hawthornes.
