I am interested in growing walnut trees for long range profit. I understand that they have several of the same requirements as do pecans. I have been unable to find the information required to be sure I plant the most profitable stand. I am also interested in; where to find buyers? What do full grown trees sell for? Is it possible to secure buyers that would be around in 30 years? I have about 5 acres to designate to this project. Finally, is this a pipe dream?

It is my personal opinion that yes, indeed this is a pipe dream!!! However, I think you ought to check with a forester to know for sure. Check with Dr. Alan Dreesen to see what his opinion is. There is no question that you could grow the trees. It is just marketing them in 30 years that would be the problem. At least with pecan trees you might eventually harvest a few pecans.
