Phillipine Violet, Barleria cristata. The name commemorates the French botanist, Jacques Barrelier, who died in 1673. The inappropriately-named Phillipine violet is a native of India. The flowers are pale violet-blue. This plant was discovered growing at the zoo and was brought into the area by Paul Cox of the San Antonio Botanical Center. It will grow in full to partial shade.
