If your border is in front of shrubs, you will need to apply extra water during dry periods to replace the moisture used by the shrubs. Put tall flowers in the back part of the bed and remember is to have your plants in groups large enough to form masses of color or texture.

Fredericksburg peaches: In this area of Texas, harvesting begins in May and continues into August. The peak season is June and July. If you take a drive up to the Texas Hill Country you will find the roads dotted with fresh peach stands during this time of year.

Peaches, A Challenge! By Dr. Calvin Finch. Peaches are not easy to grow in San Antonio, but they can be worth it. Select a variety that can tolerate the amount of cold weather that we receive in a normal winter, about 550 hours. Among the varieties that do well here are Junegold, La Feliciana, Floridaking and Sam Houston. For best success, plant your peach tree in a raised bed in full sun, they cannot tolerate shade or poor drainage.

Mitchell Lake Wildlife Refuge which is owned by the San Antonio Water System and has been a destination for tens of thousands of migratory birds. The new Mitchell Lake Audubon Center serves the greater San Antonio community with nature education programs, using the resources around the 600-acre lake and adjoining wetlands as an outdoor classroom for visitors of all ages.
